Crochet Naïveté

Arts and Crafts

I’ve tried to wrap my mind around beginner crochet many times.

I’ve tried it so many times, I have a drawer full of untouched yarn. Yesterday I opened the drawer and caught sight of some nice chunky 100% wool that I really like, so I thought it might be time to give it another go.

I feel a bit silly about not taking to it. Seems a bit doltish that someone who can sew a period gown from scratch can’t crochet a pot holder, but there it is.

I spoke to my good friend (and craft genius) Miss G this morning. She’s going to bring me a few simple patterns … and provide plenty of advice. Jonathan picked me up a couple of new hooks today while he was at the store. =)

Have a great sleep!

I decided to start crocheting, too! It’s been > 40 years since I last did it. I thought I wanted to do a regular granny square throw, but I found a daisy square pattern that looks beautiful. Good luck!!

Oh!! I recently stated crocheting too! Might I suggest granny squares to get you going? You can do multiple squares (they don’t get boring like bigger projects tend to for me) and then just sew them all together to make whatever you want. I’ve made several types of granny squares…. Sunflowers, daises, traditional, etc. it keeps the task at hand manageable for me while I’m still learning. I also found a great book, it’s called The Happy Hooker, Stitch and Bitch crochet. It’s FULL of good information that I can reference back to once I run into the challenge. Can’t wait to see how you’ll do. I absolutely LOVE it. Although, I’m not very good yet. I have made baby and dog sweaters, blankets, market bags, etc. it’s FUN!

I will look that book up! I noticed the granny squares but didn’t really know what the deal was with them. I will try that first off!

good start! a scarf is kinda like a long potholder depending on the stitch you use!

That’s what I was kind of thinking. Plus, it would be a scarf for me and I like everything to look like it came from the Weasley’s house anyway.
